The Rural Philanthropy Roundtable

      

The Foundation for Rural Living with formal partners and a number of participants and links, is establishing a Rural Philanthropy Resource Network (the Network) to provide rural individuals, communities and agencies with the knowledge, training, and support needed to successfully expand community investment and charitable programs.  The Network will be based in rural with human and other resources collaborating. Professional development programs and a virtual network of resources will support local resources. Research undertaken in partnership with the Imagine Canada (Formerly the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy) will provide baseline information for the measurement of the impact of the program.

The key component of the program is assisting rural individuals to obtain experience and employment in the field of professional fundraising.  A rural community capacity building project funded primarily by Human Resources Development Canada will provide meaningful on the job skill enhancement opportunities that both contribute to community outcomes and lead to long-term employment.

Under the day to day supervision of the Director of Community and Cultural Services/Elgin County Library CEO, the Rural Development Officer will fulfill the following objectives:
  • To coordinate the planning, development, promotion, and implementation of a series of events to take place in the 10 communities where the branch libraries are located throughout 2010 to promote the upcoming 75th Anniversary of Elgin County Library
  • To assist with the conception and development of strategic library centered events to take place during the anniversary year (2011)
  • To explore creative fundraising strategies to support planned events
  • To work with current community partners and volunteers and identify new community partners and volunteers in the 10 communities where the branch libraries are located

The Rural Development Officer will fulfill the following objectives:
  • Provide coordinator services for six human services delivery agencies
  • Work collaboratively with the West Lincoln Municipality to raise the community portion of funding to be held in escrow towards the building of a multi-resource centre and banquet facility
  • Work with the "Under One Roof" committee to gain support from the community through involvement in various events
  • Research and respond to funding opportunities to bring more collaborative services to the community

Detailed Job Description
 
The Rural Development Officer will work from the office of the Green Jobs Strategy project in Brussels, Ontario on community projects intended to support the rural community in implementing green job strategies and renewable energy initiatives in the 5 CFDC regions of Huron, Perth, Saugeen, Waterloo-Wellington and Middlesex.
